We need to take action! You all want the building saved but your not doing much to save it!!! On April 7th there is a CB5 meeting (in the Flat Iron Building) about the hotel, go there and tell those morons why it must be saved!!! We can do this!!! We just have to stop being lazy and get our butts in gear!!

Says the person who has 2 posts..... where were you two years ago when the people on here were fighting?

Where was I? I've been working with Gregory Jones (Pirho) for the past two years making amazing progress on the hotel. I am one of the editors on the Save the Hotel Blog and am helping him run the facebook page. I have contacted many politicians and that letter Pirho posted where the lady said that you can't landmark a building if the owner doesn't support it, I wrote that letter to her. I have made amazing progress but I just havent posted it on here. Together we can save the building but we need to join together!

For the record, it is not my project. I simply was dumb enough to continue that which 2600 started. The Hotel is a community project anyone can contribute or take the lead on it, as long as the goal is achieved, and the hotel still stands. So lets take it easy boys, lets not fight. If you want to speak your mind the CB5 meeting on Land use is the place to do it.
The rezoning review board of CB5 for the Hotel Penn, was rescheduled to the April meeting. There is still time to get your speeches together and tell them what you think.
The meeting of the Land Use & Zoning is scheduled for:
WEDNESDAY
April 7, 2010
at 6:00 pm
LOCATION:
Flatiron BID
27 West 24th
Suite 800
Following that there will be a Full Board meeting to approve or disapprove:
THURSDAY
April 15, 2010
at 6:00 pm
LOCATION:
First Alliance Church
127 West 26th St.
buzzer #3003

Well, I certainly hope people make a sizable presence there. Last thing we need is a land use & zoning meeting taking place with few or no hotel supporters.
A lot of HOPE people may have misinterpreted the situation. I've heard a bunch of people say "the hotel? I thought that was saved cause of the bad economy." The thing is that's just a reprieve, not a final success. The economy --after all-- eventually goes up after going down. The question i s: are we using this reprieve as extra time save the hotel or extra time use the hotel before demolition?

^^^^ I certainly hope you show up to a meeting! You can do a lot of good because you know what your talking about. You may be able to persuade people, of course hopefully with a little help from some friends here on the HOPE forum. If we really try and keep at it, we can make a difference! I sound like such a idiot right now talking so triumphantly but I really believe that we can do something, we just have to work together and really start thinking of strategies now. We cant stop! I actually sent out an evaluation request for thE Cafe Rouge. I was thinking that maybe Vornado would at least be willing to spare that room or that the LPC would stop taking Vornado's money and shift into gear! Just out of curiosity, are you all from NY?

Understand that the full board meetings, no one listens. The members are all busy talking and not paying attention to anything anyone says at the podium. Sad but true.

I think its still better than nothing, if they start ignoring you can't you just single them out and be like "Are you kidding me?" I really don't think I'd be able to let them disrespect me like that.

You can always pull a stunt to get there attention, than use the 30 seconds of collective "wtf" to say something. :p

Who here is going to the CB5 meeting definitely? (I'm praying that I get a lot of responses!) This is our last chance, and if you truly care, you will go to the meeting and VERY FIRMLY demand those morons that the building has to be saved! Should I attempt calling Christine Quinn?

Well, I know I can't make the Wednesday one, I'm heading to OTH by 6pm on Wednesdays. I'll see what I can do for the 15th, though.
Do we know if there is any summation, directly from the Penn people (or whoever is hosting), for the event? I have some people asking me.

The situation is the same as the Landmark one, the land use board meets first to hear what the proposal says, then it moves to the whole board for approval. But here is the kicker, regardless of the CB finding, the process still rolls onward. I mean really, what is the purpose of having all these steps in place if one of them says no, they process continues? That's like all of congress of the senate saying no to a bill, and then it gets passed regardless.
I left fliers with the staff just as last time, but the attitude is, "Oh I've worked here for 10 years do you know how many times I have heard this?" How many times does someone have to threaten your life before you do something about it?

So, what you're saying is: they've basically been hearing that since Vordado bought the place and now think it'll never go anywhere.
-_-
In that kind of situation, I'd suggest trying to re-interest as many members of the general public. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of time left for that at this point. Has anyone been trying to build an army of supporters or is this thread pretty much it? If "no", I suggest everyone sending out a blast email to anyone who was/is/could-be interested in the hotel's survival.
Even 2 dozen people could probably make a difference at this things. Of course, many more would be much more helpful.

army of supporters? We couldn't get an army of supporters the last time we did this, nothing has changed, the system is a bunch of bullshit, just like the MTA public hearings its all a facade. They do what they want as long as they go through the motions.

=/
People don't seem to give mind to threats. They just get angry about the consequences, which they had the power to avoid.

I hate people, they really are so stupid! A wise man once told me to never love anything in Manhattan because one day it'll break your heart... Well, my heart is breaking!
